Krengo: common questions
Short answers, each linked to the page that has the source. Krengo is a prototype, and no real ride has been logged yet.
Accuracy not validated. Krengo is a hobby project. No real ride has been logged yet, and the data field has been tested on fictional data and in a simulator, not with a real sensor on a real bike. Numbers here are models or examples, not measurements.
Krengo: common questions
What does Krengo measure?
The lean angle: how many degrees the bike tilts from upright. A motion sensor is sampled 20 times a second, and the readings are read out after the ride. The angle comes from gravity, with a gyroscope filling in between readings.
Has it been tested on a bike?
Not on a real ride. Krengo is a bench prototype, and no real ride has been logged yet. The sensor module died on Oct 1, so the logger waits for the first circuit boards, ordered Oct 4 and not yet arrived. Accuracy not validated.
What is real, and what is illustration?
The logger prototype and the timeline are real. The animated corners, with their speeds and angles, are drawn to explain the idea, and the photos are from a real race. Pages mark drawings as Illustration and models as models.
How do I measure lean angle without the sensor?
Four ways, each measuring something different: a phone, a dedicated inertial sensor, video, or speed and corner radius. A phone in a pocket follows your body, not the frame. The page explains what each method can and cannot tell you.
Can GPS measure lean angle?
It can estimate it, under conditions. In synthetic tests at 35 km/h on 60 m turns, the median error was 2.3°. That is a software test, not a result from real rides, and it gets much worse in tight turns.
Can I analyse a ride I already did?
Yes. Drop a GPX, FIT or CSV file on the analyser. It runs in your browser and the file is not uploaded. A GPX file gives a GPS estimate of lean, not a measured lean. Accuracy on real rides is not validated.
What does the grip scale G1–G12 mean?
Each step is the share of an assumed grip limit that a corner uses, from G1 (wide margin) to G12 (far above the limit). It is a model built from lean, speed, surface and level you choose. It never says how much grip the road has.
Does a low G number mean a corner is safe?
No. The scale is a model of how much of an assumed limit you use, not a safety guarantee. When the model cannot estimate, it shows UNKNOWN with an empty meter, and that never means safe.
What is the pedal warning?
The Garmin field calculates when the inside pedal would touch the road, and warns 3° before that. It shows LOW* while the model says the pedal is clear and PEDAL NEAR near the limit. The asterisk marks an estimate, and LOW* never means safe.
At what lean angle does a pedal touch the road?
There is no single angle. It depends on bottom bracket height, crank length, pedal thickness and reach. With the field’s defaults the estimate is about 36.2°, and your own bike will differ. A measured angle beats a calculated one.
Which Garmin devices does it work on?
The field is built for Edge 530 to 1050, Explore, fēnix 7 and 8, Forerunner 965 and 970 and epix 2. It has only been tested in Garmin’s simulator, on Edge 540 and fēnix 7. It has not run on a real device.
Can I install the Garmin field?
Not yet. There is no file to download and it is not in the Connect IQ Store. Without the Krengo sensor it would have nothing to show. It has been tested on fictional data and in the simulator only.
What does it cost, and when does it come?
Neither is decided. Krengo is a hobby project, and the sensor is not for sale. There is no price and no release date, and the site makes no promise of either.
What does Krengo store about me?
Reading the site or analysing a file stores nothing: files stay in your browser, and there are no cookies and no tracking. If you ever sign up for the notice list, the privacy page lists exactly what is kept and how to delete it.
Can I build my own logger?
The build guide explains the principles with an ESP32 and a BNO055 motion sensor. It says what is tested and what is not. Accuracy on real rides is not tested, and the code is not public yet.
